(Reuters) – Twitter Inc. (NYSE:) has about 2,300 active employees, Elon Musk said in a tweet Saturday.
CNBC reported Friday that Twitter’s full-time headcount has dwindled to about 1,300 active employees.
Citing internal records, CNBC said about 75 of the company’s 1,300 employees, including about 40 engineers, were on vacation.
In response to a tweet citing CNBC, billionaire Musk tweeted, “This memo is false. Twitter has about 2,300 active and working employees.”
“We still have hundreds of employees and thousands of contractors working on trust and safety,” Musk added.
Musk acquired Twitter in October and quickly moved forward with a number of product and organizational changes. The company rolled out Twitter-verified blue checkmarks as a paid service and laid off about 50% of its staff.
